Lubbock Arts Festival – Cake Ace Prize

Posted by admin On April - 10 - 2012

I was asked by the Lubbock Arts Alliance to do an illustration to be given to the winning team of “Cake Aces” at the cake competition at this years Lubbock Arts Festival. I like how he turned out. This was all watercolors/pitt brush pens and a little bit of airbrush and white acrylic paint for highlites.

Biker Tattoo

Posted by admin On January - 2 - 2012

It’s been a while since I did an actual illustration (been a while since I had time!) But I finally wrapped up all of my 2011 projects just in time for the new year. What a relief!

I started this last night, and finished it up today. That makes it officially my first drawing of 2012. Hopefully this year will be as blessed as last year.

This painting will be at the Intersections: Art and the Body  art show this Friday from 6 – 9. I’m putting it up for sale for $250. Email me if you’re interested.

The painting is watercolor, pen and airbrush on 12×8 bristol board.

Ice Cream Rescue – Logo designs

Posted by admin On October - 18 - 2010

In my business, I am always meeting interesting people doing interesting thing.  A couple months ago, I was asked to do logos for an Ice Cream truck company in Arizona that buys old firetrucks/ambulances and refurbishes them as Ice Cream trucks.  They do corporate and public events, providing ice cream and such.  Sounds really cool!  Here are a few of the drawings I did for them…

One of my favorite parts was designing these ice cream kids, rescuing people with delicious ice cream!

The best part about this job was working with my wife Amber.  She herself is an amazing artist, and it turns out she is way more talented with designing art in Illustrator than I could ever hope to be.  So she took my drawings and made them look great in this program so they can be shrunk and enlarged endlessly without losing quality.  Very cool!

Texa$ Don Zielinski – Tshirt

I did this T-shirt design for Texa$ Don Zielinski celebrating his 50th anniversary of drag racing.  He is a cool guy and this project was a lot of fun to work on.  I did a lot of concept sketches to get the car design just right.  I will post some of those here when I get the chance.   I also got to work with my (new) wife on this, since she’s an amazing artist herself.   AND… I got to see a real Drag Racer in action.  Sometimes I have the coolest job in the world.

Darth Vader – returns

Posted by admin On March - 7 - 2010

This likeness turned out a little better for Mr Vader I think.  though I still see lots of room for improvement.  Whats weird is that I thought I lost this one several times because I over-inked the thing, but was somehow able to bring it back in the painting process.  Its funny how that works.  I almost never scrap drawings now, because I know if I’m patient with them, eventually they’ll come out alright.

I’m going to try a few more portraits if I have time outside my freelance work.  After a handful of those, I might try for an actual “Star Wars” style illustration, the way Drew Struzen makes it look so effortless.  Till then, I’m having fun practicing.

Darth Vader

Posted by admin On March - 2 - 2010

Continuing with the Star Wars theme, I Decided to take a crack at painting Darth Vader.  Definitely takes some work to get the costume right.  Especially on the helmet.  I think this turned out well, and I’m anxious to try it a few times till I get the result I’m looking for.

Dead@17 Sketch cards

Posted by admin On February - 23 - 2010

dead@17_sheet3

I was asked a while back to do some sketch cards for the new Dead@17 card set.  This is my first time doing sketch cards, so it was fun and interesting.  I’d like to do some more down the road.

Most of the cards I did were done like these with watercolor, pen and ink, white out and a little airbrush.

Star Wars Storm trooper

Posted by admin On February - 18 - 2010

I love Star Wars.  I need to do more Star Wars art.  Its so much fun.  Except when your airbrush is acting up and you end up breathing in too much atomized paint.  *Coff* *cof*

This was a quick illustration, using pen/ink, prisma markers, airbrush and acrylic paints.  About 10″x10″.   Its from a stormtrooper design I saw in a toy magazine.  Coruscant trooper, or something like that.  Pretty cool.

Singles Awareness day – 2010

Posted by admin On February - 2 - 2010

Singles Awareness Day is coming up in a couple weeks.  I did the poster for the S.A.D. party last year too.  They’re fun to do.   Hopefully I can do more in the years to come.

I drew this Santa for a wine label a few weeks back.  I got a couple bottles of the wine recently and it turned out really cool!  I’d take a picture, but I don’t have a camera.  The wine is from Caprock winery.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!
