Amber and I decided to do flying Hippopottermuses as our warm-up sketch this morning. I think he’s cute. Amber’s turned out CUTE as well.

Old man and the Ice Cream

This Joyful old soul was partaking in an icecream desert at Jason’s Deli last week. You can really see how excited he is about the sweet concoction.
This is not my best ever attempt at digital painting. Sometimes I forget how to do things, like paint in a computer.

Sinister Gemini Kitty

Experimenting with digital painting. My friend Brandon Green showed me some tips on painting Fur and hair in photoshop. This is an exaggeration of my cat Gemini. She can be quite sinister at times.

The drawing changed a lot from the original sketch, which was supposed to be about how she prepared to be evil for the rest of the day. But I think it lost something along the way. But that’s what practicing is for.

Dragon Girl

Recharging this week after nearly 3 months without a day off. I’ve enjoyed every minute of work the past few months, but it was good to recharge. But I’m ready to get back to work. This is a quick digital painting from an old sketch I found. I like the colors, but I was hoping to get a little more detail into rendering the dragon. But I’m feeling rusty. Regardless, I like how it turned out. What do you guys think?

Caricature – Smooth Fusion 10th Anniversary

Its weird what I start to enjoy most about drawing after a while. Lately, I’ve really taken to drawing furniture. Don’t ask me why. But I like a good cartoony chair. This is a recent commission, squeezed ever so tightly into my already busy schedule of late. I still love drawing caricatures from time to time. Another digital painting. I did this sketch a few weeks back at a sketchnight, and I really wanted to digitally paint it then too, but couldn’t get it to work the way I wanted. I had a lot better luck this time around, after practicing that Bobbi Chui demo the other day. This makes me want to learn to paint backgrounds now though. Step by step I guess. A quick digital sketch here and there is all I have time for these days. I’ll get there eventually.

This was a quick 20 minute digital painting sketch after watching a Bobbi Chui digital painting tutorial video. I’ve always liked digital painting, but its sometimes a struggle. I think that video helped a little with taking it up a notch. It definitely didnt seem to be as much of a struggle.

Gators

Warm-up sketches of Gators. I sprayed a little digital paint over it hoping to make it pop, I’m not so good at doing the atmospheric digital painting yet though. It feels like it takes me too long to smooth out the colors, and I’m not sure I”m doing it right. That said, gators are fun to draw. I think these are based on some old Disney gator designs.
