Gargoyles Issue One Reviews
I meant to post this earlier. There’s a lot of reviews out for the first issues of Gargoyles. Way more than I expected. In general they seem to be pretty favorable. Actually, most of them sound pretty much the same. At least they’re positive. One Two Three Four Five Six
Tutorial
My friend Francis showed me this awesome tutorial from Kazu (Flight, Copper) on his process for doing a comic from thumbs to completion. Very interesting stuff. I love Kazu’s work. I’ve been a fan for a long time. I honestly had no idea that he drew this comic tradionally. I could have sworn that it was all digital. Really cool.
Jeff Smith
Has a new blog. He transcribes a lot of his motivations and inspirations over the years. Right now he’s talking about Joe Kuberts take on Tarzan, and how it influenced his art as a kid. I’m a big fan of Jeff as a person and as a creator. And I of course am a huge fan of Bone. It’s really nice being able to have that insight into what all he’s done and been through, and how he made it through all of it.
El Pacifico
I am at once inspired and destraut at this comic. It’s a group of three professional artists, all extremely talented, that decided to do a round table online comic strip. With the theme of Pirates. The art is fantastic and the storytelling fun and entertaining.

It looks like the first print run of 10,000 copies has sold out and they’re going to reprint the issue. Badass! My first sold out comic book.

Hey Guys,
The first issue of Gargoyles is out tomorrow. After ten years and nearly 25 comic books, this will be my first comic book with national distribution. It feels like a nice way to start out. Please pick it up. Read it, love it, make your friends, and your friends’ friends buy it, and while you’re at it… help keep me in a job!
If you’re in Lubbock, I believe the book will be available Thursday at Stars, and I will hopefully be there signing, doing sketches and being awfully silly. And if you’re in the L.A. area this weekend check out the 10th annual Gathering of Gargoyles convention. Be well and as always…
Keep Smiling!

My friend David Hedgecock drew these images of Goliath and Demona to promote the new Disney/Slave Labor Graphics Gargoyles books for the upcoming convention season. I colored them up today, they’re going to end up being 6 foot tall displays for the booth. Hopefully I’m allowed to share these since they’re not part of the actual book and are mostly promotional material. I’ve really enjoyed working on Gargoyles. I loved this show!

And this is a drawing of Hudson that is going to be 1 of 3 sketch card designs we’re printing for the conventions to hand out to people to get free sketches done. They’re really great PR. I did about 200 sketches when I was promoting the gulliver comic at Wizard World Dallas. It’s great experience.

I just finished coloring the last page of issue one last night. I just have a few touch ups left and then uploading everything to the SLG server. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. This is a great little comic. And I really feel great about my colors. Something happened after talking to Brian Stelfreeze at Aggiecon, because there’s a remarkable difference in the pages before then and after then. I imagine by the time we get to the third or fourth issue we’ll be doing some really fantastic work on this book.
So there’s an article up at the pulse and I guess it’s the same one as THIS . David Hedgecock, the penciler on the book, gives me a nice little shout out. Pretty cool. Thanks David.
