Sunday sketching at Market Street

Posted by admin On December - 11 - 2011

Sketching people at Market Street in Lubbock Texas. My friend Brandon posted his sketches too (some of the same people).

I like the old cowboy in the puffy jacket. When I get old, I’m going to wear a puffy jacket, just for safety, not even to keep warm.

These are some older sketches from back in September. I think I was waiting on a friend, who happened to be at a Magic: the Gathering tournament. Lots of interesting characters to draw. I’m not sure why that one guy had a medal ribbon around his neck. But he sure seemed pretty proud of it.

People sketches

Posted by admin On October - 27 - 2011

These are a few of my favorite sketches from the last week. I really enjoying sketching people now. Some of them are even starting to look like the people I’m drawing.

I don’t think this guy was as angry as he looks in this sketch. But he didn’t have a natural scowl. Like he was born with it on his face. It probably didn’t help that he was waiting in line at walmart.

Walmart Sketches – 10/15/2011

Posted by admin On October - 17 - 2011

It was a bit slow sketching at Walmart this weekend. Not that there weren’t plenty of amazing wildlife to draw from… in fact it seemed quite the opposite. These are a few choice sketches from our recent outing. The colored pencils didn’t scan too well.

Old man and the Ice Cream

Posted by admin On October - 7 - 2011

This Joyful old soul was partaking in an icecream desert at Jason’s Deli last week. You can really see how excited he is about the sweet concoction.
This is not my best ever attempt at digital painting. Sometimes I forget how to do things, like paint in a computer.

the complete package

We were sketching at the local rest-o-rant when this fine fellow in supremely tight clothing sauntered past. The image was burned in my brain, the sketch quickly followed.

Caricature – Smooth Fusion 10th Anniversary

Its weird what I start to enjoy most about drawing after a while.  Lately, I’ve really taken to drawing furniture.  Don’t ask me why.  But I like a good cartoony chair.  This is a recent commission, squeezed ever so tightly into my already busy schedule of late.  I still love drawing caricatures from time to time.  If you or anyone you know are interested in getting a caricature done as a gift or for an event, drop me an email.

Phil Kerr Van – Illustration

Posted by admin On June - 14 - 2010

I did this illustration a couple of years ago for Phil Kerr Plumbing.  It was a fun drawing, except for trying to squeeze that little dog in there.  But this weekend, as I was leaving the studio, I drove past a van that had it plastered all over the side.  Being a freelance illustrator, I’ve had a lot of firsts in my career, this being one of them.  It was cool seeing the van, and without thinking I whipped a u-turn and followed the van till I could get a good photo.  I’m certain the driver thought I was nuts.

Caricature Family

This was a caricature commission from a few weeks back.  It was a lot of faces from a lot of photos.  Not the most I’ve ever drawn, but I was able to turn it around quicker than any I’ve done.  The client seemed really happy with it too.  I think its going on a T-shirt for a family reunion.  Not sure exactly, they just wanted the drawing.

Olderly People

Posted by admin On March - 11 - 2010

I love sketching Old Dudes.  Its no secret.   Especially living in West Texas where Old Dudes are in and of themselves work of art for the caricature artist.  I was out at the Market Street last night with Amber sketching people, and the Olderly’s were out in full force.   This guy was one of my favorites.  I decided to paint him in Photoshop.  I want to do a whole scene of these guys.  But I still have lots of other work to be doing.  Maybe one of these days I’ll do a book of ‘em.
