Sketches April 2012

Posted by admin On April - 19 - 2012

It has been a very busy month, but I’ve tried to squeeze in sketching whenever I can. I’m almost finished with this moleskin sketchbook. Probably 7 or 8 pages to go. After this I’m going to switch to a brown paper sketchbook, just to keep things fresh for me.

Lately, I’ve been drawing with red/blue pencils, and for some reason purple prisma color brushpen for outlining. On this page in particular, I’ve been smudging the purple to get shaded effects, and then go back over it with colored pencil, or greys to give it more depth. I’ve almost completely stopped using black ink for the last few weeks or so. Most of these were drawn at the Lubbock Comic Book Expo this past weekend.

Grocery Overload

Posted by admin On April - 6 - 2012

This sketch is actually from several weeks ago. The lady was walking around looking for a cart to place the piles of frozen food spilling over her grasp. Pretty funny to watch actually. This was a quick memory sketch.

More March sketches

I loved the fella with the thumb looking head.

March sketching.

Busy month lately. We’ve been doing a lot of caricature events in recent weeks. I can’t complain, but I’ve not been sketching as much as usual. Just a few here and there. These are a few of my favorites from recently. These are out of the moleskin sketchbook.

Feather in his cap

Posted by admin On February - 20 - 2012

I found this charming cowboy at the mall this weekend. His gut was most impressive. Oddly, I started noticing more and more feathers in cowboy hats after seeing one in his. And the feathers just seemed to get bigger and bigger. Also, I really like how the texture styrofoam cup turned out.

people of walmart sketches

Posted by admin On February - 8 - 2012

These are a few of my sketches from the past week. Lots of walmart people, and a few from the mall. Lots of character this week.
I loved the security guard in this first one, he came in all flustered, with a baby blue bicycle helmet on, and his pants leg rolled up,
scrambling to get some food before his shift.

Sunday sketching at Market Street

Posted by admin On December - 11 - 2011

Sketching people at Market Street in Lubbock Texas. My friend Brandon posted his sketches too (some of the same people).

I like the old cowboy in the puffy jacket. When I get old, I’m going to wear a puffy jacket, just for safety, not even to keep warm.

These are some older sketches from back in September. I think I was waiting on a friend, who happened to be at a Magic: the Gathering tournament. Lots of interesting characters to draw. I’m not sure why that one guy had a medal ribbon around his neck. But he sure seemed pretty proud of it.

People sketches

Posted by admin On October - 27 - 2011

These are a few of my favorite sketches from the last week. I really enjoying sketching people now. Some of them are even starting to look like the people I’m drawing.

I don’t think this guy was as angry as he looks in this sketch. But he didn’t have a natural scowl. Like he was born with it on his face. It probably didn’t help that he was waiting in line at walmart.

Walmart Sketches – 10/15/2011

Posted by admin On October - 17 - 2011

It was a bit slow sketching at Walmart this weekend. Not that there weren’t plenty of amazing wildlife to draw from… in fact it seemed quite the opposite. These are a few choice sketches from our recent outing. The colored pencils didn’t scan too well.
