Freebirds World Burrito

Posted by WillTerrell On July - 1 - 2009

The Lubbock SketchClub is an art group I run here in town. We usually have a pretty good turn out of artists of all ages and skill levels. I really enjoy being a part of it. We’ve been very fortunate to have a place to meet every single week that is very supportive and conducive to our sketchy needs. Freebirds World Burritos. Where else can you make tin-foil sculptures and sketch in huge groups?!

I designed this flyer for our store, for an event they’re doing in a couple of weeks. If you’re in Lubbock, stop by from 1-5 on july 29th to sketch with us and check out the cars and bands. It should be a lot of fun!

Sketch Night 1-31-2009

Posted by WillTerrell On January - 31 - 2009

This is a quick video from the sketchnight tonight.  We had 64 artists show up tonight.  It was a lot of fun.  This video is towards the end of the night, so its thinning out a little bit.  But you can see that everyone had a good time.

SketchClub News and me on TV!!!

Posted by WillTerrell On November - 30 - 2007

The Lubbock SketchClub has a new website!! El Sketcho Clubo dot com. Its spanish for the sketchclub. Its plum full of information and updates. Check it out www.elsketchoclubo.com and drop me an email to let us know what you think. Especially if there’s stuff that needs fixin’.

The Lubbock SketchClub and myself are being featured in this weeks (Dec 1st) episode of TEXAS COUNTRY REPORTER. I used to watch this show when I was a kid visiting my grandparents, so I’m busting a bit that they’d even have us on. They filmed a lot at my studio, and about as much at our sketch night, so I’m not sure what the episode will be about. I was hoping it would be a spotlight on the SketchClub, but you never know, it could be an expose on bad hygiene or men with beards. The episode airs in Lubbock on KCBD 11 Lubbock, NBC 6:00 am SAT, 8:00 am SUN. For show times in other areas visit the TCR website at www.texascountryreporter.com/show.htm I believe the episode will also be available in a few weeks on youtube.

Check it out!

Sketch Night Sketches – 01.06.2007

Posted by WillTerrell On January - 7 - 2007

I had a good time at the sketch club sketch night tonight. Thanks to everyone that came. I brought brown bag paper, chartpak markers and white out for the gang. I think everyone had a lot of fun messing around with it. These are some of my sketches.

Sketch night sketches

This one was digitally colored…

(no idea what she’s doing with her hand there.)

Its weird. I dont know if other artist go through this, but I am feeling so incredible as I draw these days. I really feel my own style coming to the surface. And the incredible control that I never imagined possible. Yet at this same I feel like a little kid, completely in awe and bewildered by what comes out of the end of my pencil. Its like watch saturday morning cartoons when I was 10, except its all coming from my brain. Drawing is fun and playful now. Even my dayjob coloring comics, is starting to become something fun and exciting. I feel very blessed. I cant wait to see what my stuff will look like in a year or two. Man!

Anyways, I think it has a lot to do with sketch club. I’ve really needed other artists around me to challenge me and help me to grow. Its made a huge difference in my life. I feel really grateful to know such awesome artists in this little town. And it seems like every day we meet more and more. And I believe that we will continue to grow and there are more and more exciting things on the horizon – ‘o7 is going to be an incredible year.

I love sketch club.
