    Hi Will,

I stumbled across your videos on youtube the other day. I have to first compliment you on your artistic talent, and your hilarious laugh. Everytime I hear you laugh you make me laugh with you thanks for spreading the joy. Second I have to say that what you talked about in your supersecret tip video of the old lady feeding birdseed to the rats really resonated deeply in me. I think a lot of people will benefit from hearing that type of advice . I think you are a very openly honest and cool person. just thought I would let you know that. keep it up and I anxiously await your next youtube video. oh yeah one last thing if you ever come to Portland Oregon I would love to meet you.

  6. Hey Will…
I’m writing this as I am listening to one of your inspiring YouTube videos. I am 57 years old and have always had an interest in being an artist, but never looked at it as a way of making a living. A few years ago, I got the silly notion to start drawing caricatures, so I knew I needed some training and fell upon Schoolism. I took Jason Seiler’s Caricature course & Stephen Silver’s Character Design course. This past year I got up the nerve to start drawing at efents as well as drawing peoples’ s pets at pet stores. I was really nervous about putting myself “out there”, but am really glad I did it. I now am in the process of putting a website together (www.winkeldoodle.com) and have a facebook page as well. Thank you for your videos, because I deal with discilpine and fear and all the stuff you talk about. It’s nice to know others have been down the same road. I currently own a yard & home maintenance business and am drawing on the side. My hope is to eventually make enough money drawing that I can ease back on the other business. I’m not getting any younger, so I’ve got to do my due diligence and learn and practice as much as I can so that will eventually become a reality.
I work digitally, but was really impressed with your drawing with felt pens and pencil crayons. What types of pens and pencils do you use?

Enjoyed going through your site. Looking fwd to more. Bookmarked!!!

Thank you, Troy! I’ve got several friends in Portland. Hoping to make it out there before too long!

  9. admin says:

Hey That’s great Mark! I am so glad to hear that! I hope that it just gets better and better for you from here! Your work is good, friend! Check out my youtube channel for some videos on the types of art supplies that I use. Hope that helps!

  10. Hey Will! Know anyone on Vancouver Island, Canada? Probably not. But if you’re coming as far as Portland,
    Vancouver ain’t too much further…
    Just sayin’.

  11. Hey Will I got excited when I heard about you being a student (for a little while) of Court Jones. I immediately turned a bright shade of green. I met him years ago at an NCN convention, and the guy us a genius . Not only is he an accomplished caricature artist but a painter as well.

I love your approach to teaching and don’t mind that fact that you ramble on and on one bit. I feel that when you’re talking off the cuff that’s when the real teaching starts.
I’d love to interview you given a chance. How can we set that up?

  12. admin says:

I feel very thankful for Court Jones. He helped me out of a very dark place in my life, and encouraged me to find new opportunities. Not only is he an amazing artist, but he’s a great person. Very thankful for him. And he deserves all the success that comes to him.

Thank you so much for your compliment. And for your comment. I think that would be great to do an interview! Let me know!

What an inspiration! Your youtube videos are phenomenal. I am a 40 year old artist.. I have been running from creating for awhile, only doing a few things for my daughter’s school projects here and there… I put myself through college getting a degree in map making (GIS) that landed me the job I have today. However, since I have started the job, they found out I could create in Illustrator and all, and… well… now they want me to draw a comical field guide for the industry… which led me to your youtube videos… Man, things have ben falling into place here lately! And then the video’s of pure motivation and inspiration… I have to say thank you for creating them. You are doing great work, both in showing how you illustrate, to your great life advice. Many MANY appreciations! I could go on, but I feel like I’m yammering… (whatever that means!)

    Best to you!
You should come to Atlanta area sometime for a seminar or something!

  14. admin says:

Thank you, Mike! I appreciate the wonderful message! There’s a good chance I could make it to Atlanta. One of my best friends that I sketch with here in Texas is moving to just north of Atlanta for his wife’s job. So I’d have a reason to visit. I’ll keep the seminar idea in the back of my mind for just such an occasion. Good luck with your comical field guide! I bet that it will turn out amazing!

  15. Kerrie says:

You are amazing! I really enjoyed watching all of your videos, and you’ve truly inspired me. =) . My only problem is that your caricature isn’t smiling, and that makes me sad…

  16. admin says:

Thank you, Kerrie! And I’m not being sad, I’m being smug, lol. But in my new video I’m smiling. Some might even say I’m crazy-eyed smiling, but I’m smiling. Thanks for watching, and for your comment!

  17. Mike Carson says:

Been watching your videos for a while now and love your work so much! You seem like such a nice person and inspire me everyday. I must have watched all your videos ten times over by now. I just want to say: I hope everything is good with you and keep up the fantastic work! 🙂

  18. admin says:

Thank you for that, Mike! I appreciate it, sincerely.

    Hey Will,
Didn’t realize you were from Texas. That’s awesome. I’m a 3d artist located El Paso and feel like I miss out on a lot of stuff because I’m not in a major area. It’s encouraging to see another ‘outlier’ that is having some success. Also, episode #4 is a gem man. Wringing my hands waiting on freelance invoices to be paid right now. Really needed to hear the experiences you shared there. Best of luck. Keep on truckin’.

  21. admin says:

Glad it helped, man! Thanks for watching!

  22. Darrell Taylor says:

    Hey Will,
I found your Youtube site a couple of weeks ago and have been power watching ever since. I am a 65 year old grandmother of 10 and am looking for a fun way to pass my year of retirement. I am very crafty and done just about every craft you can think of like: decorative painting, several oil classes, silk floral arrangement, counted cross stitch etc. Now I think I would like to learn to draw, for fun, the way you do as you make me smile. My question to you is where do I start in terms of learning? I can’t fill a sketchbook as I need to learn the drawing skills. Can a non drawer learn how to draw online? Who do you look to for inspiration? Help… Any interest in being a mentor to a little old lady like the ones you draw? Please respond to my personal email. I enjoy your work very much and love all the wonderful advice and life experience you share. I am located in Littleton, CO and hope to meet you when you are hear visiting or for a conference. Thanks sooo much in advance. donn

I just want to thank you for making last night such a special time for my grandson, Zee (Azariah) at the Market Street in Lubbock Texas. He came running into my room so excited, and talked about what a great time he had with you and all the other artists in the club. You don’t know what it means to a grandmother to know that adults are so respectful and friendly to my grandson with this enthusiasm in his art.

I first met you years ago when another of my grandsons was a young boy and I read about the local drawing club meeting at Freebirds. My husband took him to the meeting and he also enjoyed it. I have a photo of you and him on that night. Fast forward in time to a couple of years ago when Zee moved here to Lubbock with his parents. He is homeschooled and didn’t know any kids at that time and I remembered the drawing club. I went online to find out if it was still meeting, and sure enough it was. I don’t think you were an active part any more, but did come sometimes.

Anyway, you made my grandson so happy last night with your kindness and encouragement. Thank you, and blessings in your endeavors as an artist and with your family.

  25. Hello Will! I know you probably get this a lot but thank you so much for sharing your life experience and wisdom as an artist and as a person. I am a recent undergrad not only looking for work but also still struggling finding my artist voice. I worry I won’t find work before my degree is considered out-of-date or useless. Your YouTube videos are inspirational and something I really needed to hear. Because of my introvert personality, I have trouble making friends, especially artists! Thank you again and keep up the wonderful work. Let’s all keep our spirits up and draw with joy in our hearts 🙂

  26. Margaux says:

    Hello Will,
I just wanted to thank you for your so-inspiring and helpful Youtube videos. You have a real power and this is so rare in this world so again, thank you. I’m an art student from France (Paris) and have failed on animation school’s entry tests this year. At the same time my parents told me i have no talent and shouldn’t keep pursuing my dream of being an animator, i had the chance to discover your great channel and started watching your People Sketching vids. These were a true benediction and saved my future career. Since then i know i don’t have the right to give up and that i need to draw as much as possible every day to make my dream come true.
Anyway, I really hope that one day you’ll come to Paris 🙂 keep on being the inspiring and talented man you are! (pardon my english if i made mistakes)
    Margaux

  27. Sal Perez says:

Hey Will. Im from Oceanside and I heard in one of your videos that you were also living here in town. I was wondering if there is any sketch club’s here, I’ve been looking but can’t find anything. Thanks for your time.

  28. Christian Zuniga says:

Hello, my fellow nerd! My name is Christian Zuniga and I am studying Digital Arts and Animation at PSU but transferring to the University of Central Florida next fall. I am wanting to get into the art and animation industry and I have found a lot of inspiration and great advice to help me along my career in your youtube videos. I still have years of work to do before I am even half as good as you. Do you have any beginning advice for me and other novices out there?
Thanks for your videos and I am excited for more in the future!
