Zoo Sketches

Posted by admin On September - 21 - 2011

I went to the Amarillo Zoo this past weekend with my wife and my friend Brandon Green. I’m trying to draw a lot more from life, doesn’t get more lively than animals. Especially Lemurs, Tigers, and SpiderMonkeys.  My goal is to study the anatomy of these animals over the next few weeks and we’ll go back and give it another go. Hopefully see some improvement. I’ll post results as we go.

By the way, if you follow me on twitter @willterrell I posted the raw pen/ink of most of these sketches.

Khaki man – Mall sketches

Posted by admin On September - 19 - 2011

This old guy was so adorable. We found him at the mall. I wanted to keep the colors quick, this was about 30 minutes. Playing with some new PS brushes my friend Brandon gave me. Definitely makes things quicker and smoother. I’m having a lot of fun with it.

Walmart sketches

Sketching at Walmart, this guy was awesome. So awesome. I’ve got a couple other sketches of him I’d like to paint up too. My friend Brandon Green did a great sketch of him as well.

Sinister Gemini Kitty

Posted by admin On September - 14 - 2011

Experimenting with digital painting. My friend Brandon Green showed me some tips on painting Fur and hair in photoshop. This is an exaggeration of my cat Gemini. She can be quite sinister at times.

The drawing changed a lot from the original sketch, which was supposed to be about how she prepared to be evil for the rest of the day. But I think it lost something along the way. But that’s what practicing is for.

Old Wolverine

Posted by admin On September - 8 - 2011

My Wife Amber and I are starting to do warm-up sketches together in the studio. Today’s theme was Old Wolverine. We may do a whole series of elderly super hero characters before moving on to something else. Check out Amber’s site to see her take on Old Wolverine.

I drew this with a much thinner pen than I’m used to, and it ended up looking like a Skottie Young drawing. I love his stuff! I decided to go ahead and experiment with adding textures and muted colors to go all out with it. I think he turned out alright.
