Noir detective

Posted by admin On October - 27 - 2010

These sketches are basically copied from another artist.  For the life of me though, I can’t remember who it was or where I found them.  But I loved the stark design and high contrast black and white.  So I redrew all of them, and even did the little scene at the bottom 4 or 5 times trying to get it right.  I love how clean the storytelling is, just in that one panel.  The characters and poses are both very distinct, and set off cleverly from the background.  Great stuff!

Drawings of birds…

Posted by admin On October - 20 - 2010

Birds are so much fun to draw!  Fat ones, long ones, weird ones.  I like drawing them really puffy, like its the middle of winter.  A lot of these are from my head, but I know I redrew some poses of Archimedes to get help with putting more animation in my wing designs.

Ice Cream Rescue – Logo designs

Posted by admin On October - 18 - 2010

In my business, I am always meeting interesting people doing interesting thing.  A couple months ago, I was asked to do logos for an Ice Cream truck company in Arizona that buys old firetrucks/ambulances and refurbishes them as Ice Cream trucks.  They do corporate and public events, providing ice cream and such.  Sounds really cool!  Here are a few of the drawings I did for them…

One of my favorite parts was designing these ice cream kids, rescuing people with delicious ice cream!

The best part about this job was working with my wife Amber.  She herself is an amazing artist, and it turns out she is way more talented with designing art in Illustrator than I could ever hope to be.  So she took my drawings and made them look great in this program so they can be shrunk and enlarged endlessly without losing quality.  Very cool!

Gators

Posted by admin On October - 13 - 2010

Warm-up sketches of Gators.  I sprayed a little digital paint over it hoping to make it pop, I’m not so good at doing the atmospheric digital painting yet though.  It feels like it takes me too long to smooth out the colors, and I’m not sure I”m doing it right.  That said, gators are fun to draw.  I think these are based on some old Disney gator designs.

The anniversary of Michael Turner’s passing was a little while back, and I wanted to do some fanart to remember him.  He was a huge influence on my development as an artist, I will always be thankful for him.  He is surely missed.

My friend Nick Webb colored up the original line art for me.  I didnt have a lot of freetime for my take, I like how his turned out.
