A nice bit of crumpet!

New painting. Did this a couple nights ago. It’s a reproduction of an old Jack Cole playboy cartoon. I really dig his stuff. I’m really enjoying watercolors now too. –Will Terrell

Figure Drawing

Posted by WillTerrell On December - 27 - 2006

I’ve been working my way back to figure drawing lately. Finally putting all the practice to use. Did a bunch of magazine sketches, and then had a friend model for me. I intend to do a lot more figure drawing in ’07, leading up to going back to Watts Atelier in the fall.

These are turning out a lot better than the last time I was doing figure drawing. I’ve learned to be more relaxed about my lines. Not just gashing out black core shadows like before. Getting there…

New Sketches – 12.21.2006

Posted by WillTerrell On December - 21 - 2006

I did the top set while waiting at the Dr. Office with my Granma. The second set I did on my lunch break while eating a burger watching people go in and out of the gas station across the street. And… while watching cat in the hat on cable. Sketching is fun.

Sketch night sketches

Posted by WillTerrell On December - 17 - 2006

This one was digitally colored…

(no idea what she’s doing with her hand there.)

Its weird. I dont know if other artist go through this, but I am feeling so incredible as I draw these days. I really feel my own style coming to the surface. And the incredible control that I never imagined possible. Yet at this same I feel like a little kid, completely in awe and bewildered by what comes out of the end of my pencil. Its like watch saturday morning cartoons when I was 10, except its all coming from my brain. Drawing is fun and playful now. Even my dayjob coloring comics, is starting to become something fun and exciting. I feel very blessed. I cant wait to see what my stuff will look like in a year or two. Man!

Anyways, I think it has a lot to do with sketch club. I’ve really needed other artists around me to challenge me and help me to grow. Its made a huge difference in my life. I feel really grateful to know such awesome artists in this little town. And it seems like every day we meet more and more. And I believe that we will continue to grow and there are more and more exciting things on the horizon – ‘o7 is going to be an incredible year.

I love sketch club.

"Death and Sandman" – 11×17, cell paint.

Posted by WillTerrell On December - 16 - 2006

I started this painting about 3 years ago. I drew the figures and partially painted them. Then got stuck. I was feeling artistic tonight after the store signing and when my first painting messed up (I ended up finishing it too after this one) I still wanted to paint so I grabbed this one that’s been laying around the studio hurting my feelings since ’03. It feels great to tie up old unfinished business, doesnt it. I think it turned out pretty well too.

Conan Sketch

Posted by WillTerrell On December - 14 - 2006

I did this sketch at the store signing today in Lubbock. Thanks to everyone that came out. It was a lot of fun. This was the first store signing that I actually did sketches I was happy with. Several in fact. Things keep getting better and better.

Here’s one that didnt sell… but I’m glad, I was secretly hoping to get a chance to scan it in. Anyone interested in buying this sketch it is $10 buckaroos. Totally worth it.
