Purgatory Ridge Rough Riders

Posted by WillTerrell On February - 26 - 2006

I read about this Cowboy Action Shooting Club(CASC) in Lubbock the other day, and decided to check out one of their shootouts, and do some sketching and collect some reference while I was at it. It was a lot of fun and they were very gracious. Check out their site at www.purgatoryridgerr.com. Also, I’ve uploaded my photos to HERE and below are a few of the sketches I did.

By the way, that guy in orange is a REAL cowboy. His name’s Conagher. He’s awesome!

Rough Riders

Posted by WillTerrell On February - 26 - 2006

Found out about this group here in Lubbock that dresses up in authentic cowboy gear to shoot six-shooters at old west town style targets. Brandon and I are gonna check it out tomorrow and do some sketchen’. I did this quick sketch from one of the pictures in the paper about the group. Think it turned out pretty good.

I’ll post more if we get to sketch some tomorrow.

Bar Sketches – 2

Posted by WillTerrell On February - 21 - 2006

This is another one of the sketches I did at the bar last night.
But I decided to color it. This is way exaggerated, this bouncer guy wasn’t quite this hard core. But he was close enough that it was easy to go this way. Fun sketch.

Bar Sketches

Posted by WillTerrell On February - 21 - 2006

I’ve been kind of lonely artistically lately. Missing my sketching friends in San Diego. Decided to go out tonight and draw some folks. Went to the bar with my girlfriend tonight and sketched the scenery. Been a while since I sketched people for fun. It was just that– fun! …and refreshing. I even got a bunch of free shots for Leigh, and my beer was paid for. Not bad. I did quite a few more sketches than this. But ended up giving most of them away. I think I’ll be doing more of this. It felt nice.

Card art B/w

Posted by WillTerrell On February - 18 - 2006

Someone asked me if I could post the B/w for that card art from yesterday. I was really happy with the pencils on this. Some of my best work. The original is about 5×7.

Gulliver – Promotional art

Posted by WillTerrell On February - 17 - 2006

I designed this card back in november for WizardWorld Texas. It’s promotional artwork for the Gulliver comic book that I’m working on for Ape Entertainment. The character depicted is “engine”. He is a robot that basically runs Gulliver’s steam ship. He’s a fun character. I was going for an ambiguous mood for this character. Envoking some mystery, without looking too sinister. I think it came off well.

I’m really excited about this series.

Old Man – Digital Sketch

Posted by WillTerrell On February - 16 - 2006

This was about a 25 minute sketch in photoshop. I was working from Ron Lemen’s digital painting tutorial. Ron was one of my teacher’s at the Atelier. And he’s a master at photoshop… and pretty much anything.

This ended up looking more like a caricature of the original than a portrait. Probably because I didn’t lay it in correctly. I also found that I didn’t know where to go from here to make it actually look like a portrait. Lots to learn I guess. It was still fun to do.

My Valentine

Posted by WillTerrell On February - 14 - 2006

Quick sketch for my valentine Leigh. This is pretty much the first year I’ve ever had a girlfriend on Valentines. I can dig it.

So this was, Marker and pencil. About 2 hours.

Gulliver – Page One

Posted by WillTerrell On February - 13 - 2006

Finally got the site back up.
Thanks Brandon.

Page one of Gulliver is now colored, I’m very happy with it. I’m not usually this happy with my work, but this is definitely a new leap for me. I think the extra research really paid off.

Now I’ve got to color page two.
